Save Time And Do Your Microsoft Xbox Repair Yourself

When you visit Microsoft’s official Xbox live forums, you would find a long list of complaints regarding the Xbox 360. These complains have a range of gripes: customer service reps failing to follow up as promised, receiving broken consoles from the repair center, losing money on prepaid Xbox Live subscriptions and longer-than-expected fix times.

Almost immediately after its launch in 2005, problems with the Xbox 360 game console surfaced almost immediately but these complaints didn’t seem to frighten or deter buyers. Microsoft has successfully sold 5.8 million of this game console in the US alone. But with increased sales, comes increase in complains and the fact that Microsoft has increased the warranty extension hasn’t satisfied its customers. This is because the warranty is only applicable to the consoles that display the three blinking lights, or the "Red Ring of Death," as it is known to the gaming community.

This Red Ring of Death, according to Microsoft, indicated a general hardware failure. Microsoft has been receiving a lot of these complains since the launch of its Xbox but of all the complaints received regarding warranty Xbox 360 repair customers, the most has been on the excessive wait times of four to eight weeks. This long wait has agitated and frustrated customers nationwide especially when they’ve been told that their Xbox will be returned after an Xbox 360 repair process has been done after 10 days or so.

The return process goes something like this: an Xbox 360 owner calls customer service and describes the problem. If the console can be serviced, a box is sent to the customer with prepaid shipping. The customer then uses the box to send the console to the repair center. The console is then either fixed or replaced and sent to the customer after the Xbox 360 repair has been done.

Because of the delay caused by the Xbox 360 repair process, a lot of customers have taken to repairing the Xbox on their own. An Xbox 360 Repair is somewhat a common thing today especially when it concerns the Red Ring of Death as this fault alone has become a major contributor to all Xbox 360 repairs. With a bit of diligent surfing on the internet, frustrated customers can come across a wide array of Xbox 360 Repair guides that proclaimed to be able to fix the Red Ring of Death error that is so very common.

The guides on the internet provide a very detailed, step-by-step guide from what tools to buy, how to unscrew the Xbox cover and safety measures while fixing the Xbox. Some guides come with images to guide you. And all these guides come from gamers themselves who have bought an Xbox, gone through the same problems like any other Xbox 360 owner and have found the most appropriate means of solutions to get their Xbox fixed and running in no time, rather than to wait for the Microsoft Xbox team to fix it and take weeks, maybe months to send it back.

I learned to fix the Xbox through detailed guides and videos on the net. I am no electronics wizard and was skeptical about taking apart my first box. I am glad I did because I make an extra $600 a month in my spare time to do Xbox repair locally and you can do that too.
How famous is the 3 Red Light Error?

What caused it?

How to fix it?

The explanation in here is a bit technical and detailed but if I were you, I’d read on because to understand a problem, you need to get to the core of it.

But if are not interested to know the details, you can go directly into 3 Red Light Fix and follow my step by step guide to fix it.

What does 3 Red Light Error a.k.a Red Ring of Death mean?

The 3 Red Light Error is caused by anything that fails in the "digital backbone" on the mother board. Also known as a core digital error. CPU, GPU, memory, etc. Bad parts, incompatible parts (timing problems) bad manufacturing process (like solder joints), misapplied heat sinks or thermal interface material, missing parts, broken parts, parts of the wrong value, missed test coverage.

How famous is the 3 Red Light Error?

According to insider reports, the estimates for Xbox 360 to get the 3 Red Light Error is as high as 30%. Which means 1 millions consoles, mostly Xenons are expected to be having this 3 Red Light error (just imagine how much money will Microsoft make in repairing them ). Some of the Xbox 360 consoles are expected to have repeat failures as well.

Many people are blaming Microsoft for their poor engineering design. Although it may be or may not be true, what I know for a fact is that the cooler you keep your Xbox 360, the longer it will last.

There’s not much news online about this, but according to insider report, Microsoft were so focused on beating Sony for market share, that insufficient design, production and testing was done over a period of time. Lots of manufacturing steps were skipped. In a forum I visited, one of the Xbox 360 owners were complaining that the thermal paste on the heatsink has a protective layer, which was not removed. If it’s not removed, how would the heat dissipate via the heatsink!!!

Although, 3 Red Light Error has been a major pain for many gamer, you got to agree that Xbox 360 graphics for games are truly marvellous, better than Playstation 3

What caused it?

In simple terms, 1 main reason Overheating that caused 2 sub-reason which is GPU becoming loose from the motherboard and poor design to dissipate heat.

Let’s explore further..

The underlying cause according to numerous source seems to be excessive heat. Combined with incorrect lead-free solder used for putting components together on the motherboard, it proved to be the catalyst for the 3 Red Light Error.

Sub-reason no 1: During high temperatures, the incorrect lead-free solder tends to becomes brittle and weak. Over time, the solder would crack and break, thus reducing it’s effectiveness to hold the Graphics Processing Unit(GPU) to the motherboard. This instability disrupts the continuity of the console to function properly as a whole, thus causing the 3 Red Light Error to appear.

Sub-reason no 2: Due to poor design implemented by Microsoft during research, development and even production, heat is dissipated poorly from the GPU and CPU. The mounting of X-clamps which holds the heatsink to the CPU and CPU are small in size and it just remove excessive heat effectively.

How to fix it?

Fortunately, this problem can be fixed in 2 ways:

Give a call to Microsoft Xbox 360 support to get them to fix the problem. For administration and shipping, they will charge you $130 and 6 weeks of repair. The problem gets fixed though, but I can’t say for how long, because the issue lies in their design.

Follow my step by step guide to apply thermal paste on the heatsinks and proceed to purchase the Xbox 360 Fix Guide that will teach you on how to stabilize the GPU connection to the motherboard, fixing washers between heatsink and motherboard, any many other that will guarantee to solve the 3 Red Light Error once for all. See my Repair Guide recommendation on why this Repair Guide can help you save money on repair costs.

Learn How To Fix Your Xbox 360

Ever since the days of Pong, people of all ages have started to play video games as a hobby. While at first they were considered a pastime for children, eventually older people have taken an interest in them.

One of the reasons is the increasing complexity of games. Nowadays, there is an amazing range of games, appealing to all tastes and interests. From fighting games, to role playing games, to racing games, to sport games, there is always someone for everyone. And the graphics of today’s consoles have clearly come a long way from the ones from Pong.

The video game industry has grown so much that industries have been trying to jump on the wagon for a while. Microsoft debuted in it with the original Xbox, and then it followed up with its next generation console, the Xbox 360.

Microsoft’s strategy for its console was to release it almost a year before its competitors. While this helped the company assure a bigger market share, it also meant that the design of the console had to be rushed and completed before proper testing took place.

The result was that the Xbox 360 console tends to have technical problems with frequency. Unless you know how to fix your Xbox 360, this means that you have to send your console to Microsoft, which involves a loss of time, or have it repaired by a local technician, which involves a loss of money. Moreover, some technicians will try to take advantage of you if they think you don’t know how to fix your Xbox 360. Once they have your console in their repair shops, you will have to take their word on what’s wrong with your Xbox.

A more effective solution is to learn how to fix your Xbox 360 yourself. That way, you won’t have to wait several weeks for Microsoft to fix your console or pay a technician to do it. Moreover, the Xbox 360, like any machine, will break down again with time. If you know how to fix your Xbox 360, then you will be able to fix any technical problems whenever they happen.

Not only will you have a very high chance of repairing your Xbox yourself, you will be well placed, …

XBox 360 Three Ring Light Fix
Fix Your Own XBox 360. But thankfully there is a way to take control of the neverending problems that plague our XBox 360. Its the XBox repair manual, and it is currently flying off of the “shelves”, so to speak. Many XBox 360 owners …

Xbox 360 Repair
And of course, the “self-fix” is beyond anyone but a skilled technician, and if it goes wrong you’ll void your warranty and cause further damage. But don’t panic. Now there’s another Xbox 360 repair option. One that’s simple, foolproof, …

    Xbox 360 Rrod Repair

If you have recently noticed three red light flashing on your xbox screen, your xbox 360 is having the problem of Xbox 360 rrod or red ring of death and you immediately need to fix it to avoid further damage to your gaming console.
If you observe a disc unreadable or disc error problem

If you observe your Xbox 360 suddenly freezes or crashes

If you observe any strange or abnormal sound from inside of your gaming console

If your system suddenly fails and you are unable to play the game on it.

Causes of Xbox 360 RROD problems

Overheating of the consoles generally causes Xbox 360 rrod problems and if you continue play games for long hours, the temperature inside the console reaches beyond 100 degree centigrade and at such high temperature, the soldering used for joining the electrical wires get melted. To avoid this problem, keep your console at an open space and if required it can be air cooled from outside by a fan.

Xbox 360 rrod repair yourself

Actually if your Xbox 360 is under warranty, you should send it to Microsoft for rrod repair, however if the warranty is over, it is better to repair it yourself. You need not to be an engineer or technician, if you simply can follow the audio-video instructions and can understand English well, you can do the job yourself. Xbox 360 rrod repair is quite easy and you will be doing soldering work for fixing the problem, which is quite easy and simple. So, instead of sending the console to Microsoft for repair, using a guide or ebook, you can fix Xbox 360 rrod problems yourself.

Looking back on the years, the gaming consoles have certainly evolved from the days of bleak Pong. Even the last generation consoles from the top providers of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft (GameCube, PS2, and Xbox) had proven to be convenient, and not at all hard to use.

As one would see the latest addition to the gaming community, the add-on for game enjoyment had come a long way from extra controllers or video game discs. The system had developed the ‘memory card’ system, and transformed it into a big capacity hard drive, not to mention the new front skins, types of controller, and internet connectivity.

The downside to having a lot of ‘extra’s is the tendency of broken parts in the console, raises. The identification of the problem is difficult, since you are given lots of parts, therefore would take time to check all. As much as any concerned ‘will-be’ users, there is no need to freight with identification problems with the Xbox 360. It had developed a method using lights on the controller to lead the technicians to the main source of the glitch.

The light system focuses on the four green lights on the start button. If by any chance one of the four flashes red, and then the screen presents and error code, the identification of the problem is one red light message. This means the problem is present in the Hard Drive, or DVD drive. To assure you, having problems with the two drives aren’t that major. The codes of the error for DVD Drive are E64, E65, and E66. For the Hard Drive it’s E67, E69 and E 79.

PS3 gets Xbox style RRoD – Error 80010514 Code of Death
The Red Ring of Death has been a thorn in the side of Microsoft and Xbox 360 owners since the problem was discovered. This lead to PS3 owners laughing at their rival console owning friends. However, it seems now that a similar fatal error is being ….. Xbxo 360 fanboys are actually right. I mean ps3 could break. Ps3 installs could shut the system down. these errors could last for years on other updates. A game could break the machine one day …

                                                             PS3 vs Xbox 360
Both consoles will last for many years, and I don’t see how 360′s red lights problem is so overrrated. Mine had it pop up once, I reset it and it works. Consoles do need circulation you know, the 360 just gets overheated as does the PS3. …… e.g online, how many people can play on one xbox360. I rate the Xbxo 360 for producing some killer games, but the PS3 just seems as it was built for the future. Don’t get me wrong i am not a fanboy, i’m …

While I’m downloading the software from Microsoft, i hear my fan in the 360 … The8thsign needed three X-Box 360′s to get one that worked. Not only does Microsoft have a Knowledge Base article on the red “Ring of Light”, but they even offer free repairs on 360′s …

You are a proud owner of XBOX 360. However you notice those red lights flashing but have no idea what to do.

Naturally the first reaction will be to call customer support and ask for help. Is this good enough though?

Well if you are happy to wait until someone actually helps you and if you are happy to spend money on something you can fix by yourself, than go ahead.

If no, though, keep reading and you will discover Xbox 360 freezing fix is not that hard as it seems at a first glance.

First of all you need to be able to identify the problem. Graphical problems in the middle of game play, changes of sound or freezing of sound, console not responding to nothing but restart – all of these are symptoms that come to say you will have to deal with Xbox 360 freezing fix.

Those freeze-ups are warning signs. They show that something with your console is not in order and that you can expect a bigger problem in the future.

One of the possible problems may be that your console is overheated. This is a very common cause of freeze-ups. In this case the Xbox 360 freeze fix is quite simple – just turn it off and wait until it cools down.

Obviously not only overheating can cause freezing. Still, you don’t need any special knowledge or tools to deal with the problem alone. All you need is a very good Xbox 360 freezing fix guide to lead you through the way.

If you have had any problems with your console so far, you may have already noticed that there are thousands of guides available, and thousands of people explaining what and how to do to repair your console. This may sound great but what you really need is not just any guide or advice, you need a proven, working guide with lots of videos to help you deal with the Xbox 360 freeze fix efficiently.

Fortunately we came across a DIY guide that is very beneficial when it comes to any problems with an Xbox 360 – XBOX 360 Red Light Repair Manual. It is specifically designed for people who don’t have any technical knowledge and also includes great videos.

There are many solutions to fixing this problem if you are wanting to try to fix it yourself. The main reason to the Xbox 360 freezing up is …

Yes I had time to spare while waiting for me to take a dump and yes I have LBM, I thought I might as well disassemble my 360 to get it over with. Here’s a link on how to step by step procedure to remove …
Find out beyond the break after you peep the ….. I’m talking about the blitzes that can’t be stopped, wr screens that are damn near impossible to stop, huddling into a different formation that puts say Hester at RB and general stuff like the freeze …

Xbox 360 Repair
The best of all news is that whatever your problem may be, whether it is fef blinking red lights, freeze ups, distorted graphics or the red ring of death it is fixable and that is a permanent repair as well. Also, innovation even takes things farther as it brings the video gaming experience to the next level more there are more interaction between the games and the people playing the games.

However, great as the Xbox 360 may be, there are some flaws with this video game console have that had quite a lot of people complain about. The Xbox 360 normally displays a green light around the power indicator. However, if it experiences any errors, it will display red lights.

The red lights basically mean that the Xbox is experiencing errors or failures.

There are basically four types of red lights that may appear on your Xbox. Each has a meaning that you may want to know about in order for you to determine if it is resolvable or if it needs to be shipped back to Microsoft to be repaired.

If you see a single red light flashing, this means that the Xbox 360 is experiencing problems with the scaler chip. You need to keep in mind that the scaler chip is the one responsible for dealing with the display processing through the AV cable. So, in order to get this problem fixed, you need to send the Xbox 360 back to Microsoft for repair. This is a minor problem and is usually resolved after a week or even after just a few days.

If you see 2 red light flashing on your Xbox 360 power button, it will mean that the Xbox 360 is overheating. If you experience this kind of error, then you need to turn off your Xbox 360 right away and let it cool down. You may also want to try and clean your Xbox 360 inside and out as dust may accumulate which can make the cooling systems inside the Xbox 360 stop working. Dust can also prevent the heat to dissipate as it clogs the air vents. Also, if you play with your Xbox 360 with the unit inside a display cabinet, it is likely to overheat. Instead, try to play with your Xbox 360 games with the unit out in the open. The wires may be a bit ugly to look at but it can keep your Xbox 360 cool and avoid it from overheating.

The next error is the 3 red light error. This error means that the Xbox 360 unit has experienced a general hardware failure. This is the most serious of all problems and you will need to ship the unit back to Microsoft for repairs. In this kind of error, the GPU and the CPU may have experienced a burn out which may need replacement.

There is also the 4 red light error. This means that your AV cable is not plugged in correctly. To fix this, you just need to check or change the AV cable and it should be able to get back on and running again.

These are the different types of red light errors that you may experience with your Xbox 360. Always remember that overheating is basically the cause of all problems with the Xbox 360. Keep it free from dust and play with the games with the unit in a well-ventilated area, and you will be able to prevent overheating and also other problems related to Xbox 360.

If you want to enjoy gaming on your Xbox 360 for a long time, it’s essential you take care of it well.

Follow my Xbox 360 Care Guide below and do the same for your Xbox 360, so that you minimize your risk of paying money for repairs.

Xbox 360 Console Location

1. Place your Xbox 360 in a clear, open space.

2. Do not place your Xbox 360 console in the area below:

– On a soft fabric surface, as over time, the heat generated by your console might leave a hole on the fabric
– On top of another device that also generates heat.
– Nearby an air-conditioner vent, as the process of hot and cool air produces condensation inside your unit. Imagine water generation in your Xbox 360 motherboard and you will surely know the consequences.

3. Your Xbox 360 power brick should be placed in an open area with proper ventilation as well. Do not cover it or place it behind your console.

Xbox 360 General Tips / Care Guide

I’d recommend placing your Xbox 360 in a Horizontal position as I do. The stability factor comes in place here. In Horizontal position, you will reduce the risk of your Xbox 360 falling and damaging the internal components. There not much difference in the air flow whether placed Vertically or Horizontally, but you minimize the risk of knocking it to the floor.

Do not move your Xbox 360 console position while a game is running. Your Xbox 360 does not have any mechanism to hold the disc in place. By moving the console about, you increase the chances of your disc getting scratched. Over time, your disc might become unreadable.

Try to keep a soft, clean cloth nearby your Xbox 360 console. Use it to clean up any dust and debris that are stuck on the ventilation panels. Use the Xbox 360 Repair Guide to open up your Xbox 360 and clean the inner area of the ventilation as well. Make sure your Xbox 360 is switched off before cleaning it up.

You also choose to buy a small desk fan and provide some cooling to your Xbox 360. However, do not place it at the area where the hot air flows out, as it will only disrupt the flow and cause more Overheating to your Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 Internal Care Guide

I’d highly recommend you to buy the Xbox 360 Ultimate Care Kit to clean the inner part of your console. The kit contains the following:
– DVD Laser Lens cleaning disc
– Disc Repair Kit, includes a soft cleaning cloth and disc repair fluid
– 7 Realistic fully 3D animated screensaver

Using the Xbox 360 Repair Guide step by step guide, you can open up your Xbox 360 console and wipe away dust on the motherboard, heatsink and fans. You could also use a vacuum cleaner to suck out the dust.

Xbox 360 Game Care Guide

– Always place your games disc into a case. If you leave outside, the surface will collect dust, which will then add dust and debris inside the Xbox 360 DVD tray. With this, you will also prevent Disc Error message, as your disc is always clean in the case.

– Try not to lend your disc around to your friends. Trust me, friends will return your disc back in proper condition. If you subscribe to my newsletter, I will teach how to copy your game disc and sell it to your friends for cheap. You can start making money with this method as well, which will fund for your next game purchase.
